Help Empower Entrepreneurs in Africa’s Drylands
Someone experiencing extreme poverty in Africa’s drylands is struggling to make more than $2.15 per day, rationing meals for their family, and facing difficult choices when school fees come due. When disaster strikes — like prolonged drought, a global pandemic, or other hardships — that person is likely to lose everything. As the vicious cycle of extreme poverty repeats, hope becomes harder and harder to come by.
BOMA is fighting to break the poverty cycle for millions in Africa’s drylands by empowering women, youth, and refugees to build lasting livelihoods. On their path to graduating from extreme poverty, BOMA participants build sustainable businesses, become linked to the larger world through mobile phones and bank accounts, and learn to save for the future. They become resilient in the face of multiple crises.
